This melody is taken from the second act of “Hansel and Gretel,” composed by Engelbert Humperdinck in 1892 and first performed around Christmas in 1893. The setting is 14 angels who gather around Hansel and Gretel at night, who are lost in the woods. They sing a duet, a children’s prayer.
